My son is strong in maths and science but is not interested in essay subjects like English and Social Studies. He always absolutely loved his tutoring sessions with Meg and was happy to attend. He learnt a great deal about grammar, spelling, creative writing and structuring written responses. He also worked on comprehension exercises. Josh found them interesting, challenging and fun. Meg recommended a series of books that re-ignited his love of reading. Josh was offered academic scholarships at two independent schools, and this would never have happened without the lessons he had with Meg.

Mum of a year 7 boy

Meg was great with my quiet son. Getting him to understand a way to study that didn’t leave him feeling overwhelmed and put him in the drivers seat of what was most important to address first. Thanks Meg, you really helped shape his year.

Mum of a year 10 boy

Meg is my son's favourite teacher. It is great to see that they have built a strong connection since the very first lesson one year ago, which makes the tutoring journey a lot of fun and very productive.

Meg always has a plan for each kid based on their interests, and boys like her way of tutoring. They don’t feel like they are being 'taught' in the traditional way, but have learnt and improved a lot based on the feedback from school teachers and reports. This would not have happened if they hadn’t accepted Meg as a tutor and friend. Thank you so much

Methodology

The Audrey Approach

Over the years of tutoring one of the common explanations for students struggling with English in school, is that they simply do not enjoy the subject. Reading and writing are both incredibly important skills in life, but also ones where it can be easy to take shortcuts resulting in the production of inaccurate work. The Audrey Approach, named after my great-grandmother, aims to spark enjoyment of English in students, while improving grammar, vocabulary, structure, spelling and the formulation of ideas. Where students can see enjoyment in reading and writing, as well as understand strategies to aid them, grades can skyrocket! My approach to this is to create personalised, dynamic programs suited to each child's needs and goals in a fun and effective way.

FAQS

Where are the sessions?

The sessions can be at a range of locations that best suit your family! This can include your place, the university library, a public library near you or on Zoom.

Why are the first three sessions more expensive?

When first beginning tutoring with a student, whether it is short term or long term, extra planning goes into those initial sessions! I will spend twice as much time planning and creating resources as there will often be a few different options created so I'm prepared for whatever ability level the child appears to be working at once sessions begin.

How transparent is the tutoring?

As a parent, you will receive downloadable session plans so you can see what we are up to and ask questions about the sessions at any stage! Each student also receives a workbook so you can keep up with their work and have a read if you'd like.
